Human Trafficking

What is human trafficking?

Human trafficking is the trade in humans, most commonly for the purpose of sexual slavery, forced labor or commercial sexual exploitation for the trafficker or others, or for the extraction of organs or tissues, including surrogacy and ova removal. Human trafficking can occur within a country or trans-nationally. Human trafficking is a crime against the person because of the violation of the victim's rights of movement through coercion and because of their commercial exploitation. Human trafficking is the trade in people, and does not necessarily involve the movement of the person to another location.

Human trafficking represents an estimated $32 billion of international trade per annum, of the illegal international trade estimated at $650 billion per annum in 2010.

Human trafficking is condemned as a violation of human rights by international conventions. In addition, human trafficking is subject to a directive in the European Union.

Why address this problem?

The people of our nation are a very charitable and helpful lot. However, it has been a fact that whenever students or organizations start charity projects to help the unfortunate, many target the usual old folks homes, orphanages or pet shelters. However don't get us wrong, we believe that these homes and shelters do need as much help as they can get from the public, but has anyone thought of helping those that weren't mentioned as much in our society today?

As to that, we thought that since we were given the chance to make a change, plus in the meantime give an impact to the people, especially the younger generation, why not bring up a more serious cause that has been partially shunned upon in the world today.

By approaching this from a lighter and brighter aspect, we at Team Freeze aim to gather the people of Malaysia, young and old, to get to know a little more about human trafficking and how it been going unoticed in our world today. By raising awareness through our campaign and finally our FREEZING flashmob, we aim to make more than 1000 Malaysians aware of our cause and what we are fighting against.
